Description

Erik is a 8.75 inches tall, hand made, ceramic gnome who is looking for his forever home. He was created on my potter’s wheel, then sculpted in a gnome.

Carved with three large daisys, the crisp clean edges of the carving cause the red glaze to “break” at the edges of the carvings, letting the color of the white clay show through the glazing.

After sculpting, Erik dried for over a week to let all the moisture in the clay evaporate to prevent his exploding in the kiln. After the bisque firing he was durable enough to be carefully glazed. The white, green and black glazes for the flowers were carefully recessed into the carvings. The striking red celadon glaze covers the surface of the hat while a soft gray covers the base.

Celadon glazes are prized for their translucent appearance and the fine network of crazing that can develope with the correct conditions. This celadon is call Snapdragon and it is a favorite of mine to use on gnomes.

Erik is high fired which means he can stay outside in the rain all summer long. And while some folks leave my gnomes outside year around, I recommend bringing my ceramic gnomes inside before freezing temperatures set in.
